BET Hip Hop Cyphers

Nikki Minaj is just sexy. Guess she can rap, never heard anything apart from this though. Her buzz is extreme, but I'm more interested in Google'in her images if I'm honest. Joe "Bludgeon" Budden killed that!!! The "ohhhhh" added a live dimension to the pre-recorded spittin. His personality is a bit erratic, but his talent in undeniable. Mood Muzik 2 is one of the greatest mixtapes this century (decade). A real rapper who can do everything; introspective tracks (Old School Mouse), storytelling (3 Sides To A Story) to straight up battle tracks (see Saigon and Ransom) and drop punches galore (Dumb Out). Check the interview I did with him earlier this year for the release of album Padded Room http://marvinsparks.blogspot.com/2009/03/joe-budden-padded-room-interview.html Em killed this one!!! Was surprised to see him up there. They don't usually have guys of his stature. Mos Def and (one of the most underrated) Black Thought on this also. Sadly there was...

Asher Roth interview

Watch official video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43pkqeamXe8 Hailing from a small suburban town with a population of just over 10,000 called Morrisville, Pennsylvania, the white, college dropout Asher Roth is far from your average rapper. He is hotly tipped for big things in '09 according to most industry insiders which has included gracing the cover of leading Hip-hop magazine XXL as one of the top 10 freshmen. Lead single 'I Love College' from debut album ' Asleep in the Bread Aisle' has surpassed 3 million hits on YouTube within a month of being uploaded and was recently selected as record of the week by leading Radio 1 tastemaker Zane Lowe. Being hearalded as the hottest white rapper since Eminem has it's pros-and-cons, most notably the comparisons drawn. However, Em' wasn't the person who inspired the new white rapper on the block to pick up the mic. Asher bought Jay-Z's 'Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life' after hearing the Annie sampl...

Paul Wall interview

Paul Wall burst on to the Hip-hop scene amidst a lot of hype surrounding Houston artists; a time when everyone had a chopped-and-screwed version of their album. Most notably, he was known for supplying grills to celebrities ranging from Hip-hop’s elite to Brooke Hogan. Since then, Mike Jones, Chamillionaire, Slim Thug and Paul Wall have all failed to maintain the hype they once had. The People’s Champ returns with his new album The Fast Life which boasts productions from Play-n-Skillz, Akon, Travis Barker and features Akon, Too Short, Yung Joc, Gorilla Zoe, Lil Keke, Z-Ro, Chamillionaire. PyroRadio.com spoke to Paul Wall to discuss his upcoming album 'The Fast Life' , his return to Asylum, why he doesn’t care about platinum plaques and what Houston needs to get back to the top. PyroRadio.com: Last time majority of people heard you was on Nelly’s chart-topper ‘Grillz’. Where have you been hiding? Paul Wall: I’ve just been on the grind tryna get it; I’ve been on the road doing ...

Joe Budden 'Padded Room' Interview

http://www.myspace.com/buddenpaddedroom It has been a tumultuous journey for Joe Budden since the summer 2003 smash-hit 'Pump It Up' dominated the airwaves. Circumstances leading to his departure from Def Jam in 2008 include an album being pushed back, pushed back further, then shelved indefinitely leading to rumours of being black balled by Def Jam label head and Joe's former idol Jay-Z. During his hiatus from the commercial game, the 'King of New Jerz' has maintained heavy street buzz and strong Internet fan base through releases of the underground classic 'Mood Muzik' mixtape trilogy. Controversy is never far though, his on-again, off-again beef with friend-turned-foe Ransom, Saigon and incarcerated Mobb Deep wordsmith Prodigy has meant he is renowned as one of the fiercest and most feared lyricists in the modern game. Joe Budden returns with 'Padded Room' , his long-overdue follow-up to his Gold-certified self-titled Def Jam debut released...

TI - Paper Trail - Interview

Shouts to PyroRadio.com every single time for this one It has been a rollercoaster ride these past few years for 2-time Grammy award winning rapper TI. The self-proclaimed King of the South released 2 chart-topping albums - both of which went on to receive platinum plaques, numerous award nominations, and adulation from millions of fans. In addition to music, he appeared in films such as ATL and blockbuster American Gangster. All nearly came to an abrupt end in October 2007 when TIP - a convicted felon - tried to buy firearms from a co-operating witness during a sting operation by undercover feds, hours before he was due to bless the BET Hip Hop Awards stage. With the prospect of facing jail for 10+ years, the performer pleaded guilty to US federal weapons charges. He was sentenced to a year in jail beginning in March 2009 after completing 1,000 hours of community service. During this time, ex-D4L (‘Laffy Taffy‘) member Shawty Lo launched into a scathing attack claiming TI didn’t live ...

Akon - 'Freedom' - Interview

Many questioned whether Senegalese Hip Hop artist Akon was just another flash-in-the-pan when he initially burst onto the scene in 2004 with the convict’s anthem Locked Up. He topped the charts early 2005 when he utilised a sped-up sample of Bobby Vinton’s ‘Mr. Lonely’ for his first UK number 1 Lonely. Much has changed since then; he has produced and/or featured on many smash hits with Hip Hop and Pop music’s elite, released T-Pain’s two Gold certified albums through his imprint Konvict, as well his own triple-platinum album Konvicted which spawned his second UK #1 ‘Smack That’. Most recently, he ended much speculation when he officially signed UK Hip Hop’s very own Sway. Marvin Sparks sat with Akon to discuss signing Sway, controversial events and negative press, being the 12th richest Hip Hop artist, charity work in Africa and the follow-up to 2 multi-platinum selling albums, Freedom. PyroRadio.com: We have to start off with you finally signing Sway. How did that come about? Akon: ...

Ironik - Stay With Me - Interview

Marvin Sparks caught up with 20 year-old DJ/MC/Producer DJ Ironik to ask about the forthcoming album, his views on the crime amongst teens, Internet success, the smash-hit single ‘Stay With Me’ and more. Marvin Sparks: How’s life been treating you now that you’re on TV, and face is getting popular? Ironik: I can’t really walk down the street much [laughs]. Just being recognised on the streets loads. People asking for pictures and autographs. It has been more hectic. People that didn’t wanna know before wanna know now, but that’s all good though. It’s just the way it is.” Marvin Sparks: How did you first get into the music game? Ironik: I started out when I was about 13 as a DJ. My uncle owns ‘Twice As Nice,’ they’re a big promotional company. The Old Skool Garage and Jungle was always around me ‘cause of ‘Twice As Nice,’ my Mum and Dad were always listening to it, so I guess that’s how I got into and DJ’in. I was DJ’in from about 13 to 15 and that’s when I started producing for loads ...
