RIP Gregory Isaacs The Cool Ruler

Gregory Isaacs dies Gregory Isaacs: 1951-2010 Reggae legend Gregory Isaacs has died after a battle with cancer. Isaacs, who was 59 years old, died on Monday morning at his home in London where he spent part of his time. He leaves behind a wife and children. Close friends told BBC Caribbean that he had originally been diagnosed with cancer of the liver which had then spread. The Jamaican reggae singer, who was nicknamed the Cool Ruler, was best known for the song 'Night Nurse'. Source Was gonna do a thoughts for the day but nothing else can even level with this news. As a Jamaican, Gregory Isaacs is up there with Dennis Brown, Bob Marley, John Holt and Alton Ellis as an artist your parents have at least 4 dusty vinyls of. Although he didn't release many records over the past decade, he remained very active through touring. One of the best voices in reggae history. My grandma's favourite artist. She'd go to the record shop and ask for any new "Gregry". That...

R. I. P Steelie from Steelie & Clevie

Today one of Dancehall's pioneers Steelie from production duo Steelie and Clevie passed away from complications associated with pneumonia. Wycliffe 'Steelie' Johnson was suffering from pneumonia having recovered from kidney complications in December. Brief bio: Steelie started his career as the original keyboard player with the Roots Radix Band which backed Gregory Isaacs, Bunny Wailer and numerous other artistes both on tour and in the recording studio, and also played on a number of hit recordings for various producers in the 70s. Steelie also played on a large number of hit recordings for various artistes. In 1986, the duo was the house band at the legendary King Jammy's Studio, which became the center point of late-1980s reggae, by which time Steelie & Clevie were established production leaders with an immense slew of 12-inch and dub singles. A year later, the duo formed the Steelie & Clevie label, coincidentally a year in which reggae riddims and dub influe...

R.I.P. Dennis Brown 1st July 1999

Was meant to post this yesterday but it was a very busy day. Went to interview the young guns from Big Ship Chino and Laden. Interview will be up shortly. Yesterday marked the 10th year anniversary passing of the Crown Prince of Reggae (1February 1957 – 1 July 1999) and a guy who really should be more known and respected to those outside of Reggae. Dennis Emmanuel Brown (February 1, 1957 – July 1, 1999) was a Jamaican reggae singer. During his prolific career, he had recorded more than 75 albums and was one of the pioneers of lovers rock, a sub-genre of reggae. Bob Marley cited Brown as his favourite singer, and dubbed him "The Crown Prince of Reggae". Biography Dennis Brown's first recording was "Lips of Wine" recorded for Derrick Harriott, but this was not released initially. He then recorded for Coxsone Dodd at Studio One, and Dodd released Brown's first single, "No Man is an Island". Brown recorded two albums for Dodd, No Man is an Island and I...

Michael Jackson: My Rant

Right, I have a few things playing on my mind, so this will be the vehicle to vent/express. If you are offended by typo's and grammatical errors, this post isn't for you. It wouldn't be a rant if I went through and corrected. This is the raw version, not fit for airplay First off, the news coverage by both BBC and Sky News has been nothing short of disgraceful. The greatest entertainer in history has just died yet all they want to do is focus on the negatives. I woke up this morning confused, wondering if another set of money-grabbing parents forced their brat to come forward with lies accusing Michael of touching him. The focus is more or less on child abuse charges, his face and other pointless hatin. The ITV documentary was the best thing on telly all night. Gave a nice reflection of Michael, focused mainly on his achievements, impact and put what I consider a true story behind his eccentricities. Think it was a program they had already made to air when MJ was scheduled ...

RIP Michael Jackson

I had a whole blog for Throwback Thursdays but due to the news, I am going to throwback some Michael Jackson classics. RIP the greatest Entertainer there will ever be. You will never be ecplipsed, hopefully now those who casted those evil words about him will treat and respect him as the great he really is. It was just the other day I was rollin back the years doing the leaning forward bit on Smooth Criminal and parts of the Thriller video. If you never practiced Jacko's moves when you were younger you never lived. Some of my faves (out of the ones I can embed). Special shouts to Smooth Criminal, Dirty Diana, Wanna Be Startin Something, Bad, Liberian Girl... the list really is endless The most ufcked up thing is I refunded my ticket to his concert at the o2 yesterday because they moved my show until March. Luckily enough I saw him at World Music Awards in 06 and I'll treasure that forever. RIP THE legend. Only Muhammed Ali can talk to you
